The Green

Please see the attached files for details of suggestions that could be used to improve The Green.  These are only suggestions, contrary to rumours, nothing has been finalised or been given permission!
I hope to be able to put up better plans soon, but these will give you an idea.  These are available to view in real life in the Parish Office and will be in The St Mary's Centre from 7pm when there is a Parish Council meeting.  We are aware that no bins are shown on this plan.
The initial idea was to find a way to provide safe easy access to a big enough noticeboard and to provide safe pedestrian areas away from the cars and parking.  The land is Highways so any plans will need scrutinising and safety auditing by Cambs County Council.
The Clock Tower is having a condition survey done so that the Parish Council can plan for any work that needs doing.  The Heritage Lottery Fund can provide grants to preserve historic buildings and enhance their setting as well as promote education about local history and produce information boards.  Any project would see this as a major component and we would expect most funding to come from this source or similar.
We need the residents constructive feedback and opinions.  Please look at the entire drawing, not just the tree, have an open mind and 'think outside the box'.  Maybe you can think of something completely different to revitalise the village centre for all users?  Maybe a few small changes or additions would make a world of difference?
We are aware that parking is important for local residents and to access the shop.  This current suggestion shows a reduction in parking by about 3 cars.  Parking for school drop off etc is very kindly allowed at Houghton Mill and the Three Jolly Butchers.  Parking can be achieved along village roads further away without necessarily causing problems.  There is also a large car park on St Ives Road for Playing Field users.
Any responses or questions need to be in writing to clerk@houghtonwytonpc.co.uk or The Parish Council Office, The St Mary's Centre, Chapel Lane.
NOTE: The Parish Council has NOT put these on Facebook at any time, does not currently intend to and does not accept any comment via social media.
