Houghton and Wyton Parish Council

Local Government Reorganisation - Public Consultation

Clare Anderson

Added at 12:03 on 09 February 2026

What is local government reorganisation?

•In 2024, the Government announced plans for local government reorganisation (LGR) and devolution in England.
•From April 2028, all local services - such as road maintenance, bin collections, education, planning, social housing, social care, and benefits support - will be delivered by a single unitary council.
•Councils in existing two-tier areas have submitted proposals to Government for what these new unitaries could look like.

The Government has launched a public consultation on these proposed changes. This is our chance to help chape the future of how servies are delivered and decisions are made in our community.

The consultation is open until 26 March 2026. The Parish Council is encouraging all residents to respond.

For more information and to respond to the consultation:

Go to www.huntingdonshire.gov.uk and search 'LGR'
